Galeries Lafayette is absolutely worth adding to a Paris itinerary, but for me, the highlight wasn't the shopping—it was the building itself.
The famous Galeries Lafayette Haussmann dome is beautiful. The stained glass, ornate balconies and incredible architectural details make the interior feel more like a Paris landmark than a department store. Even if you have absolutely no intention of shopping, it's worth stopping in just to look up and take it all in.
The surrounding Boulevard Haussmann area is also great for sightseeing and walking, so Galeries Lafayette is very easy to incorporate into a day exploring central Paris.
As for the shopping? Personally, I would pass. There is plenty to browse, especially if you're interested in luxury brands, but the architecture and atmosphere were much more memorable to me than the retail experience.
One tip for first-time visitors: double-check that you're navigating to the Galeries Lafayette Haussmann flagship location you actually want to visit. There are other similarly named or nearby locations that can cause confusion when you're following maps or walking through the area.
My recommendation: go for the sightseeing, admire that magnificent dome, enjoy the architecture and surrounding neighborhood—and decide for yourself whether the shopping deserves your time and budget.
