Absolutely worth a visit
Ghar Ir-rih的点评
点评：If you want to visit a rather less crowded but definitely awesome spot then you should go to Ghar ir-Rih. It is a hidden gem hence a bit difficult to find.
The cave is marked on Google maps but this is a bit misleading.
In the comments there is one from Emma Archer. She kindly put arrows on her photos of how to get there.
Park you car on Triq Ghar Hasan (coming from the east, e.g. Marsaxlokk) follow the road until the wall on your left ends. There is a parking lot for two cars max.
Walk down the little path until you see a no entry sign (which is roughly 5m away from you parking lot). Don't enter but turn right and follow the wall towards the ocean. Be careful as the first 20m are rather steep and might be slippery when wet. Then turn left and again follow the walled fence. The ocean is now to your right, the wall left. The views are amazing.
Then continue walking until you reach a plateau. Walk on it for a couple of metres and then climbed down to the next level. Pretty easy. Don't worry. From there turn left and follow the path which goes along the cliff and around a steep valley. It is an easy walk and not dangerous at all although it might sound like it was.
Once you went around the steep valley (stay on the path!) you will see two big rocks in your way. That is the entrance to the cave. Make sure to use the torch of your mobile phone for the first 5-10m. It is pitch dark in there. But after that you see some light. Follow the light (sounds a bit like a religious description haha) and you will have the most amazing view across the ocean.
Be careful when having children with you: there is no fence or anything. Especially when the surface is slippery it is dangerous to go too close to the edge.
Was it worth the walk and tiny bit of climbing? Yes for sure.
We were around midday and were the only ones. No-one was there. So, hope the description helps you finding Ghar ir-Rih.
