点评:A visit to the Gozo Cathedral Museum is usually paired with the cathedral itself, but the building deserves attention in its own right. The approach begins with a grand Baroque-style ceremonial staircase: marble steps, a heavy stone balustrade, framed plaster wall panels and an arched landing window. It has the air of ecclesiastical or palatial Malta, and makes a far stronger first impression than many of the exhibits that follow.
The museum is small, arranged over three levels and accessible by lift. The exhibits are pleasant enough, but the real pleasure is roaming through the building, especially the open courtyard. If there is one object worth going in for, it is the watercolour “A Turkish Bazaar” by Amedeo Preziosi, a Maltese artist.
Not a large museum, but a rewarding one if you enjoy architecture, atmosphere and the occasional object that quietly steals the visit.
