点评:After visiting the Meow Wolf in Las Vegas I knew I had to check out all of the others eventually. I got the annual Supremium pass so that maybe I could go to the LA location since it’s an easy flight from SEA but now it looks like my pass is going to expire before they open because of delays so I decided to go to Denver this week and check out the Meow Wolf Denver.
All I can say is it’s amazing! Every MW location comes with an optional mystery you can solve. You DO NOT need to solve the mystery to enjoy the exhibit because the exhibit in itself is mind blowing. I was just a looker in Vegas, but after watching people running around trying to solve the mystery, I thought I would try to solve the mystery in Denver. It cost under $10 to get the Q pass card which you need to participate.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but this amazing staff member named Deb gave me some really good pointers that totally made the challenging mystery easier for those of us that are not inclined to solve brain twisting riddles (ME). So it’s very obvious that the Denver location is supposed to be four different planets that somehow converge together to create this dimension where they are stuck together, but no one really knows why this happened. The first mystery is to figure out how this happened. Once you figure out the first mystery, a new mystery will present itself. Deb told me to start where everyone starts, C St. and walk around and explore, just absorb what you can for the first 30 minutes. Then go to the theater and watch the movie. There is a silly seven minute movie about butter that doesn’t really relate to anything (I think) and it’s just sort of silly. But the next movie is about 12 or 15 minutes long and that’s the movie that you want to see where it will starts to all come together. Once you realize how the four worlds came together, then the next mystery will start to present itself. The other tip is to take your Q pass and boop any Q reader machine that you run into. They look like badge reader machines at work. Sometimes they are hidden but the sensor is always revealed. And then try to boop things that don’t look like the badge reader pads (blobs in the forest) because they interact. In x2 two hour visits, I was almost able to solve the whole mystery. I think the finale involves a pay phone, you will need to take notes. The lock door has a code on the front of it, this code is actually a phone number that you need to call at the Pay Phone around the corner from the lock door. The payphone will give you four steps of instruction. I did not have time to do all four steps. It helps to bring a friend, but I did not have one on this trip. I definitely plan to come back with my nine-year-old son who is ND and super into retro stuff, including payphones.
On that note, MW exhibits are super great for the ND crowd. They kind of get our quirky sense of humor and you can fully immerse yourself in the weirdness. It is a safe space. I went earlier in the day and there was less crowds, but I went on Thursday evening at like 8 PM and literally nobody was there. That was the best!
