点评:After the current church was dedicated in 1992, the old Our Lady of the Sea Church was restored and now houses the Mary MacKillop Museum. MacKillop became Australian’s first canonized saint in 2010. Mary MacKillop and her Sisters of St. Joseph, the first religious order founded by an Australian, used the church as a classroom during the week. The school was established in 1891. The story of Mary MacKillop, her Sisters of St. Joseph, artifacts, and a history of the church are exhibited in numerous displays. There is a model of the Ly-ee-Moon steamer that shipwrecked at Green Cape in 1886. Mary’s mother Flora was on board. Her body was recovered. According to legend, Flora’s body was unmarked by the sea. When the people of Eden found her, she was wearing only a scapular around her neck. Mary was so grateful for the care given her mother’s body that she sent three of her Sisters of St. Joseph to start and staff a school that was free for all children. Excellent place to learn about Australia’s first canonized saint.
