Visit this pearl of Saxon castle culture

点评：A truly exceptional visit to Schloss Rammenau (near Bautzen), an absolute hidden gem filled with history, beauty and atmosphere. From the moment of arrival, the castle captivates with its magnificent setting and immaculately maintained grounds. The interior rooms are remarkable, restored and presented to an exceptionally high standard, showcasing beautiful craftsmanship, elegant decorative details and stunning historic flooring that instantly transports visitors to another era.
The Rhododendron garden was another standout feature, overflowing with colour and creating a peaceful, almost fairytale-like atmosphere around the estate. Every part of the grounds feels lovingly preserved and rich in character.
For anyone wondering why very little original furniture remains, it is worthwhile exploring the castle’s history surrounding the events of 1945, which provides important historical insight and explains much of what was lost during that difficult period.
The icing on the cake was the outstanding café, thoughtfully arranged across several individually themed rooms, each offering its own distinct charm and ambience. There is also a beautiful balustraded outdoor seating area overlooking the park, providing an elegant and relaxing place to enjoy lunch, coffee or cake surrounded by nature and history. Both the lunch menu and cakes were superb, with excellent quality and presentation throughout.
The staff throughout the castle and café were incredibly friendly, welcoming and highly knowledgeable, contributing greatly to the overall experience.
A particularly memorable bonus was seeing a pair of storks nesting on one of the castle chimneys, a breathtaking sight that made the visit feel even more unique and special.
Overall, I believe Rammenau Castle offers far more than a traditional castle tour. It is a fascinating journey through history, architecture, nature and regional heritage. A genuinely memorable experience and highly recommended for anyone who appreciates culture, beauty and authentic historic charm.
