点评:The Bassetlaw Museum is situated in the town of Retford.
It is just over three quarters of a mile on foot from Retford station and is close to the town’s bus station.
Whilst the museum is quite small there are plenty of fascinating artefacts on display.
There’s a nice collection of old toys and domestic appliances and a room full of cine equipment.
I enjoyed the recreation of an old school room, and exhibits relating to local industries including rope making, dyeing, engineering, iron works and coal mining.
The prominence of the town with the creation of the Great North Road (A1) and the Chesterfield Canal is well documented.
I liked the Mattersey Boat which dated back to the 4th - 6th century.
Currently on show is an art exhibition called Golden Light by local artist Mark Bloomer. Some good paintings of scenes from around the country and other parts of the world.
Admission is free and the museum is open on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday between 10 and 16.45.
