A hidden gem with clear waters, cheap parking, and vengeful fish

Getting to Maenporth Beach involves trusting your sat nav through a few miles of narrow B-roads, but as you emerge from the trees into the cove, it’s entirely worth it.
Parking Pro-Tip: You’ve got two choices upon arrival. On one side, the "official" car park with a soul-sucking ticket machine. On the other side, a field with a friendly guy in a van. Go with the guy in the van—he’s perfectly legitimate and cheaper! It is on the bank of a stream so the mud can smell a little but the smell doesn’t travel far.
The beach itself is stunning, stretching a few hundred meters wide with a shale slope on one side and a freshwater stream cascading out of a rock cave that splits the sand. It’s easily one of the best beaches I’ve visited. The water is crystal-clear and stays shallow enough to wade out a fair distance. It’s a hub of activity: people launching SUPs, kayaks, and someone even brought an entire sailboat right up to the shore while a regatta sailed past in the distance.
Facilities & A Word of Warning:
There are toilets and a great little cafe on site. Interestingly, the cafe doubles as a minor injury unit. The local weaver fish love to hide in the sand and sting unsuspecting toes—and honestly, good on them for defending their turf! The cafe staff probably have more clinical experience treating weaver fish stings than the local A&E department. Take their advice: wear beach shoes in the water.
