点评:Piazza Mino is Fiesole's main square and like all good small Italian towns, the piazza is the heart of the place.
It’s also the best starting place for exploring Fiesole. Almost all visitors to Fiesole come as day-trippers from Florence. It's just a 25 - 30 minute bus trip and the bus drops you in the centre of Piazza Mino. From here, you can walk to all the main sights (the ancient Roman ruins, the Cathedral, the two museums & the San Francesco convent).
Piazza Mino is quite compact but most of the town’s restaurants, cafes, bars and gelato shops are clustered around here and despite its size, it has a lively atmosphere in the summer evenings when both locals and tourists seem to fill the square. It comes alive in the evening when people are sitting at outside tables eating and drinking and children dart around playing in the corners of the piazza.
The piazza is dominated by two large sculptures. One is a large and very traditional bronze statue of Italy’s first king, Victor Emmanuel, and the revolutionary, Giuseppe Garibaldi. It is a solid, imposing sculpture, with both men on horseback.
Nearby is a whimsical modern sculpture, ‘Fuga dal Tempo’.
Several historic buildings surround the piazza, including the 14th century Palazzo Pretoria which serves as the modest Fiesole town hall, the 10th century Church of Santa Maria Pomerania and St Romolo, the Cathedral. The Archaeological Area is just behind the square.
One of our favourite places on the square was the Ferro Battuto gelato shop (try the lemon and basil sorbet). The other favourite was a van selling porchetta rolls, stuffed full of deliciously flavoured pork.
NOTE:
The #7 ATAF Florence-Fiesole bus has recently changed its route. You can no longer catch it from Santa Maria Novella train station in Florence. Instead you have to walk to Piazza della Liberta which is not quite as central or as convenient.
(Church of Santa Maria Pomerania and St Romolo),即菲耶索莱大教堂。
