点评：Mariä Geburt is a delightful church in the village of Rottenbuch that is a popular stop to make along the Romantic Road in southern Germany. It is located around 15 minutes away by car from the UNESCO World Heritage Church of Wies (Wieskirche) and can be easily combined for a charming couple of hours of viewing spectacular Rococo churches.
The church is open from 8am to 7pm daily. There is free parking just a couple minutes walk from the church, making it convenient to pop in have a 15-30 minute look around and be on your way. Note, it is much quieter here than what you will likely encounter at Wieskirche At the time of our visit in late morning, there were only 2 other people at the church. By the time we left, another small group of 4 had arrived. There are free public toilets just outside the church entrance as well.
Historically, Mariä Geburt was constructed in 1073 hence its Romanesque layout and Gothic features. What sets the church apart from so many others is the exquisite Rococo interior which was added between 1737-46.
What you see is a richly decorated nave and side aisles, heavily frescoed and laid with elaborate stucco works, wooden sculptures and wall paintings. The high altar is very detailed and impressive and the ceiling frescoes are beautiful. The entire church is charming and enjoyable to view. After a walk through, just have a seat and enjoy this Rococo Gem in Rottenbuch.
