点评:Abrau-Durso is a small town by the eponymous mountain lake. While its name means nothing to a Russian ear, it sounds pretty poetic in the local, Circassian, language and means "the cliff by the four springs". It was early October when my wife and I visited that place where the famous Russian champagne is made.
The reason for our trip was the annual wine festival.
We spent a helluva evening! The town's central square, named after Emperor Alexander II of Russia who had blessed the production of this effervescent joy in my country, was teeming with people who crowded around the wine stalls, tasting wine like crazy. We didn't notice anyone wasted, though.
Russian winemaking has achieved a miracle over the past two decades! They produce excellent wines now, most of them in the Krasnodar Region where Abrau-Durso is situated.
We did the mind-blowing shopping, then drove to a lovely waterfront restaurant on the other side of the lake to dine there, and returned home late at night felling like we were on cloud nine.
A can't miss!
