Pendon Museum的点评
点评：We visited the Pendon Museum in tandem with the nearby Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary at Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, making for a really pleasant afternoon of low-key fun. It’s a beautiful area.
There are three model railways and with a keen interest in railways, history and the Vale of The White Horse, I’m probably the ideal customer. However, my accompanying family members - one of whom hates all of the above - loved this just as much as I did. Viaducts, tunnels, tiny chickens, thatched cottages, ruined castles, Docklands warehouses, naughty sheep were all there. And the second two railways had the steam trains puffing through with their vintage carriages trailing behind.
I was delighted to see The Carpenters Arms (a pub of some significance to me) just as I see it from the train window as I travel down the Great Western Mainline in the mornings.
Even on a very busy wet afternoon, we found the volunteers happy to chat and point out anything we might have missed.
If I had to criticise, I would point to the restricted running of the first exhibit. The trains are only operational in Madder Valleyon certain days, but why? This was a busy day and we’d all like to have seen it.
Also, there was supposedly model making in a side room, but no one was there and we weren’t told about it on entry. We still had a great time though. We were in here over an hour and could have stayed longer.
Honestly, the scenery, the work that’s gone into the models and the history behind it all make this such a worthwhile visit. There’s a choice of enjoyable trails to keep kids occupied while you soak up the magic. The products in the gift shop are reasonably thoughtful and there are toilets and car parking. It’s definitely worth a visit.
