点评:We came here on a whim as we were passing following a visit to Adonis Waterfalls (which was a bit odd in itself) and found this good fun. We were warmly welcomed and invited to join a wine tour that had recently arrived. Seated at a table furnished with paper napkins, fresh bread, herb infused olive oil and Kalamata olives as palate cleansers, we were given an introduction and then provided with samples of a choice of several wines to taste all grown locally in the hills at 700m altitude using methods cultivated over 3000 years of wine making in the region. The wines were pleasant and varied, with consistent flavours departing the usual rustic robustness one might expect from a Greek wine selection. The tasting included whites, reds, rosé, special reserve wine, grappa and dessert wine with options of medium sweet or dry on offer for most of each.
There is a gift shop selling the wine, some cosmetics, olives and cooking ingredients plus the ubiquitous range of Cyprus branded souvenirs that can be found at almost any shop, kiosk or attraction across the island.
There is a museum at the back which contained some interesting sculptures and items depicting wine making and vineyard life but with no real information on offer, no sense of logical flow and feels more like a room filled with vaguely wine related stuff as opposed to a museum. There is also a small cave where the special wine is matured but…..it’s just an old store room filled with mouldy bottles of wine (sorry!).
Overall, the experience was good, the compete was knowledgable and generous with his time and the wines. Worth a visit at only €5 per person for the opportunity to learn about local wine making and culture, and the opportunity to try some of the produce.
Only criticism is that the presentation and tasting felt a little rushed with not much encouragement to compare tasting notes
