点评:An Added Experience on the Way into Mount Rushmore! Perhaps I am late to the party, or I missed the memo, as the young people say, but I had not known that the Avenue of Flags existed. As you walk from the parking lot to Mount Rushmore's amphitheater for viewing, you walk on a long, broad, flat walkway, lined with flags from each of the US states and territories. Each one has a plaque listing the state name, year of statehood, and number corresponding to when the state was admitted into the union (see photos). I had a lot of fun taking photos of the different ones and then sending them to my friends who lived in those states. For example, here are the Colorado photos (see photos). This is a lovely sight both in daylight and when lit up at night. My top travel tip would be to visit here for the 7:30 evening lighting ceremony, arriving by 7:00 p.m. That way, you can see the monument and Avenue of Flags with different lighting. I am very glad we went here.
