点评:Fitapreta offers a comprehensive, historical experience with superb staff and absolutely fabulous wine. Joana, my wine guide for the visit, was phenomenal in explaining the winemaker’s philosophy about the land and his wines. They are highly committed to low-intervention and organic practices (no irrigation, no pesticides) and get creative with diverting pests from the vineyard. The tour showed the modern steel fermentation tanks, as well as the tahlas, an ancient method of fermenting wine in large terra cotta amphora. We even got to see the cleaning of an tahla during the visit—very cool! There is a chapel attached to the main house under renovation, including several frescos. Joana was a stellar interpreter of the wine and property—she studied patrimonio (heritage), and her approach was very much thinking of the wine as a living historical legacy. The wines themselves are stunning, and different from any of the other Alentejo wines I tried (which are also great in their own right!). The Fitapreta wines have more finesse and elegance—much closer to a Burgundy style. Make sure you try one of the tahla-aged wines on your visit! Oh, and the cheese platter was a perfect accompaniment. There was a soft sheep cheese, an aged sheep cheese, and a manchego-like cow cheese. Can’t recommend this experience enough—and leave room in your suitcase for a few bottles! Be sure to book in advance, and plan to take a cab from Évora if you’re not driving. Thanks to the Fitapreta team for a highlight of the trip!
