Beautiful viewpoint, but an extremely confusing ticketing system for visitors.
We walked up to Castelletto and only used the lift to come back down. The ride lasted approximately one minute.
The main ticket machine appeared to be switched off or unlit, and the only visible machine looked like a standard bus ticket machine. Nothing made it obvious to us that this short lift ride was part of Genoa's public transport network or that a transport ticket was required before boarding.
Immediately after exiting the lift, we were stopped by inspectors and informed that the penalty was €80.
For a family enjoying a day of sightseeing, this came as a complete shock and frankly ruined our day in Genoa.
I understand that rules must be enforced, but clearer signage in English and a visible warning at the entrance would prevent many tourists from making the same mistake. A one-minute lift ride should not become an expensive surprise because of unclear information.
The viewpoint itself is excellent, but visitors should be aware that a valid AMT transport ticket is required even if you only use the lift for a very short journey.
