点评:For an unforgettable diving experience, where you get to enjoy the beauty of the underwater world while also doing meaningful, diverse work in supporting the restoration of Borneo's marine ecosystems, look no further than Tropical Research and Conservation Centre. My experience staying and working with the amazing team on Pom Pom Island by far exceeded every expectation I had for what my time at TRACC might be. Be warned, however - if you're looking for a glamorous island vacation with every luxury accounted for, this is not the trip for you. The people who would thrive best at TRACC are those who would consider themselves real adventurers and/or people with a deep passion for understanding and preserving the rich biodiversity of our oceans. Visitors to TRACC are expected to volunteer for at least two weeks, where they'll be exposed to a range of activities such as artificial reef maintenance, fish and turtle identification, coral transplanting, and more. Food and accommodations are included in the cost of your stay, alongside some key dive equipment like tanks, BCDs, and regulators. Any other needed equipment can be rented at low cost from the dive store. The accommodations are humble, you'll have to get used to communal bathrooms and showers, and the food is simple yet incredibly delicious with dietary restrictions taken into consideration - but again, do not expect a resort experience. What really makes TRACC special is the community fostered here. From the dedicated staff, to the passionate students and likeminded fellow volunteers, you're likely to meet some interesting and varied people who all share a common love for protecting our oceans. You may even make some good friends if you're lucky. All in all, I would absolutely recommend anyone interested in conservation or purposeful diving to consider TRACC as their first destination.
