贝叶挂毯博物馆的点评
点评：Having lived near Battle (in the England) and witnessed many re-enactments of the Battle of Hastings at Battle Abbey, I thought it was time I saw the actual Bayeux Tapestry (I have seen replicas of part of it before and there is a full-size replica in Reading Museum).
The Bayeux Tapestry is nearly 70 metres long and 50 centimetres high and depicts the events leading up to, and culminating in, the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
We arrived at the Museum around mid-day to find a huge queue waiting to enter – when we left at 14:00 there was no queue at all!
The whole Museum is very interesting, with the Tapestry being just part of it. There was a small queue to see the Tapestry, but nothing like the entrance queue. Commentary is provided by a handheld device which kept everyone moving along at a constant pace. Afterward we saw the exhibitions on the first and second floor which were worth seeing and tells the detriment history of the tapestry – it is quite amazing that it has survived.
N.B. As I write this the museum is now closed for renovation work – the tapestry is scheduled to be loaned to the British Museum from September 2026 to July 2027.
