点评:The late 19th century Kelly Mansion, known as Liriodendron, has become an important place for art exhibitions in Bel Air. Today was the opening of Soft Paintings: Hooked Rugs from the Eric Gordon Collection, Part 2. Several rooms on the second floor were devoted to the display of these large textiles, and Mr Gordon and the docents were available to discuss the creations, some of which date to the 19th century. Colors were generally muted, and the subject matter varied from primitive farm yard animals to abstract patterns. Textures varied depending on the thickness of cloth used to hook the rugs. A favorite among the visitors was a huge wall map of the world in the 1950s. As usual the artworks were well curated with printed information tags next to each. Pleasant music was provided by a harpist. The grounds were just coming into their spring glory, which enhanced the visit.
