点评：I came to Péronne with the sole purpose of visiting this museum, billed as the best Museum of the Great War. It was disappointing.
Despite being a large museum -they were only taking cash - no cards, no big deal but in this day and age poor. Whilst there are indeed many artefacts on show the museum is very one dimensional. If you are coming with young children they will be bored within minutes. I noticed there was a video just after the entrance but the film show was in French but no indication /signage to show what it was about or how often it would commence so I didn’t hang about . Most of the interactive screens in the museum failed to operate or didn’t operate in English. For the most part the museum consisted of exhibits in glass cases with ample descriptions in various languages but it is all very ‘samey’. There does not appear to be any chronological order, just row after row of items behind glass with a description. To boot many items are missing without explanation, so after you have read about how important a particular item was to the soldier you look up from the description to find an empty shelf. There is no clear direction of visit.
It was perhaps ridiculous of me to expect a mock up of a front line trench or feel the weight of a soldiers back pack but I wanted more than row after row of paper cuttings or leaflets telling me this was a paper cutting or leaflet. To finish with an entire room is dedicated to a German artists lithographs depicting his disaster for war. The artist has talent and deserves some space but really a fifth of the museum space.?
