The day I almost died

点评：Let me start by saying this was my own fault. I'd even go so far as to say I should have known my swimming capabilities better.
I was at a lake and decided to swim out and touch one of the farther buoys. I sprinted out there and, once I got there, realized I was much heavier and more out of shape than I remembered. On my way back, I made it about halfway before realizing I might actually drown.
At that point, I yelled and screamed for help. The lifeguards—the reason I had to pay to get into the park in the first place—did nothing. The one closest to me got out of her chair but never got into the water.
After seeing that, I knew it was up to me and that no one was going to help. I slowed down and did my best to stay afloat while continuing toward the shore. Thankfully, one of my cousins realized I wasn't joking, especially because my scream sounded so concerning, and brought me a float as fast as possible.
By then, I had almost made it back to shore on my own, but when my cousin got the float to me and I grabbed onto it, I realized just how close I had been to going under. I truly thought I was going to die in a stupid lake. What a way to go, right?
Again, it was completely and utterly my fault. If I had died, it would have been because I failed to recognize that I'm no longer able to do things like that. But the simple fact of the matter is that the lifeguard was there, she heard me scream, she knew I was in danger, and she chose not to help me.
Very fun place to swim, but be aware: they will let you drown to avoid getting their hair wet.
