点评:Cool shade and greenery can be at a premium on Greek islands - the sound of trickling water doubly so. Kythira’s geology equips it with steep sided valleys and gorges clothed with trees which have a cooler, moister microclimate.
A 2.5km loop marked trail from Mylopotamus village (parking, shops, taverna, cafe) drops down past ruined water mills and returns to the village - see route M41 on the excellent kytheratrails.gr website for details and follow their blue and white trail markers. Note that the extension down to the coast is emphatically not a gentle stroll but something much more serious which may require a guide.
In high summer or after a dry spell the water may not be flowing, the waterfalls may be dry and the bathing pools uninvitingly stagnant. But that shouldn’t detract from what is a cool oasis in a hot dry land, and a charming walk through history.
As good as the Springs of Amir Ali? Do both and make your own mind up!
