点评:We queued to visit here on a weekday morning and it took about 5-10 mins to enter and pay for our ticket. No food or drink allowed in, but I was allowed to take my small rucksack in, so we put our drinks in there.
It's a beautiful cathedral, or rather co-cathedral because it shares it with another building. We didn't opt for a guided tour as it was quite busy and there was plenty of information available to read ourselves.
You can wander through - do have a quick look at the Grand Masters' Crypt which as very ornate resting places.
Obviously you have to visit and see Caravaggio's "The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist". It's towards the end of the tour around the building and is in its own gallery, which is dramatically lit to make the painting the main focus. It truly is a masterpiece. There's an exhibit on Caravaggio's life which you visit before you've completed the full tour circuit. In all, we were in and out in about an hour, without rushing or fighting our way through the crowds - you could spend longer or shorter as needed.
