点评:Visited with my elderly parents and we had a pleasant visit. The gardens are not big and we were advised at reception that it would only take us around 45 mins to get round. We walked slowly and it took about an hour. The walled garden and the greenhouses were my favourites and everything was beautifully tidy and clearly well cared for. All the staff were super friendly and helpful, and there was a really nice atmosphere. Lots of people clearly come here to meet friends for coffee/lunch etc. Additional seating around the gardens would have been welcome, especially for the less mobile or elderly guests who might struggle, especially in very hot weather. We had booked afternoon tea in the tearoom and it was very nice, although perhaps not quite as special as I’d hoped. The tearoom has the feel of a National Trust cafe - fairly informal and casual - and the afternoon tea could have been a bit better presented (no crisps or salad garnish needed, and the cream/jam would have been better served in ramekins or similar). The sandwiches could have been more imaginative but the scones were absolutely delicious - warm and light perfection - and the cakes were delicious too. For the price (£35 per head) it was acceptable, given it also includes the entry fee to the gardens and parking (an additional £4 for visitors - not sure why it’s not just added onto the entrance fee). I would recommend the gardens for a short visit and also the cafe, but possibly not the afternoon tea.
