点评：We hired Alecia Cohen at Travel Exploration to plan a 13-day family trip through Morocco this July, and I need to be upfront about something: we were not the easy client.
We’re an Orthodox Jewish family—kosher, Shabbat-observant, the whole megillah—and this was also a multigenerational trip for my wife, her sister, and their 82-year-old mother. That meant the itinerary had to work religiously, physically, and practically, all at once.
We also told Alecia flat out that we didn’t want the standard “Jewish Morocco tour” everyone seems to offer the moment they hear the word kosher. Morocco’s Jewish history mattered to us and we wanted it meaningfully included, but we didn’t want the whole trip to become one synagogue and cemetery after another. We wanted the real Morocco in depth—the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara, Berber villages, artisans, markets, food, history, landscapes, and culture—with our religious requirements built in, not bolted on. Finding someone who could deliver both at once felt like a long shot.
From the very first conversation, Alecia understood exactly what we were trying to do. She never once tried to steer us toward a pre-packaged itinerary. She listened, asked thoughtful questions, and treated the challenge of building something uniquely ours as something to embrace rather than manage. When the early plan leaned too heavily toward heritage stops, she reworked it without pushing back or making us feel like we were asking for too much.
The religious logistics were their own puzzle. Shabbat couldn’t just be squeezed into whatever city was convenient—the whole route had to be built around it, with enough time to prepare and a real way to observe. When the original desert routing created a conflict, Alecia was honest about what wouldn’t work and reorganized the circuit to fix it. She sorted out kashrut city by city—restaurants where they existed, catering where they didn’t—and even took something as specialized as tevilat keilim seriously, working out access to a natural body of water so we could do it properly. No email went unanswered. No detail was too small, too obscure, or too strange. Every “what about this” was met with genuine problem-solving, not hesitation.
What I wasn’t prepared for was watching how she and her team responded when things went sideways in the worst possible way. A family emergency forced my wife, sister-in-law, and mother-in-law to leave the trip early. Their driver and guide, Mustafa and Said, drove through the night without hesitation to get them where they needed to be in time for their flight out—real people going well out of their way when it counted most. Alecia herself was present through all of it: checking in personally, handling the insurance and refund logistics without being asked twice, and never once making us feel like a burden during an already unbearable few days. That’s not something you can put in a brochure. That’s just who she and her people are.
She was also simply a warm, lovely person to work with from day one—patient, responsive, and clearly invested in how the trip would actually feel for three women of different ages traveling together, not just where they’d go.
Here’s the part that says more than anything else I could write: my family is rebooking with Alecia to finish the trip. After everything—after a heartbreak in the middle of a journey that was supposed to be full of joy—there was never a question of whether we’d go back to her. That’s not just satisfaction. That’s trust, earned the hard way, and it’s turned into something close to family loyalty.
