点评:To read the reviews before visiting can be quite off putting. However our visit did not reflect the recent bad reviews.
For context our visit commenced about 10.00 am on a September Monday morning in uncertain weather conditions. National Trust members, so free parking appreciated. Fifty pence for toilet access ( contactless card only) Gents was flooded due to leaking toilet bowl on flush. Expect better really.
Very nice refreshment kiosk with good selection of drinks and snacks. Enjoyed cheese & onion pasties!
From the start of the walk up as far as Ilam rock ( approx half way to Milldale) we never spotted a single piece of discarded rubbish. A fantastic clean up job by staff?
The main feature, the stepping stones, is about a ten minute flat walk from the car park. No crowds for us and no waiting at all. Further up the valley there are some steep areas with long uphill steps and some tricky areas to negotiate in damp conditions. Fine if care taken.
Annoying that some dog owners find it ok to ignore the multitude of “dogs must be kept on leads” signs.
Overall, a very nice walk, despite partially bad weather.
Following day did the other half from Milldale to Ilam Rock, equally clean, and again relatively few people about, mostly middle aged/ older couples who mostly all exchanged a greeting.
My recommendation is if you can, go early, mid-week in term time!
