点评:I’ve always wondered what this unassuming little museum would be like and whether it had anything enjoyable for kids. The website doesn’t give much away.
It’s really interesting and yes, there’s plenty to keep them occupied for a couple of hours. I was with two 9 year olds and the volunteer museum staff were so hands on, engaging the kids with an exciting teddy trail and pointing out opportunities to try things out or press buttons. We saw a little model plane that takes off when you push a button, communicated across the museum with morse code, sat in the ejector seats and more.
The highlight was getting on board a real vintage plane and (carefully) pretending we were cabin crew, baggage handlers, passengers and so on. You’re trusted and allowed to touch as much as look here, it’s refreshing.
There’s free parking and it was easy to find the museum. It’s tucked away in Woodley, although the old airfield is now covered in new build houses, the museum itself has a sense of occasion and the hedges around it make it feel like a step back in time.
Honestly, it’s a must see for flying enthusiasts and still lots of fun for the rest of us. The staff were ready to answer any questions and added so much to the experience. I would go again. Thank you for an interesting afternoon.
