点评:When a friend found out we were visiting El Alamein she asked if we could locate the grave of her great uncle and take a photo as none of the family had ever visited the grave. I have been to many war cemeteries across the world and have never had cause to complain on how the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and staff look after these shrines to the dead. They are always spotless & tidy. But the book with grave details was missing on our visit and the location details provided by the family proved incorrect, so a frantic search ensued! Happily, a staff member found the books, a minute search revealed the row & plot number, success followed! This cemetery is a complete opposite to most others which are green & fertile. It is stark, dry, dusty but beautiful with its drought resistant hardy plants & shrubs, a complete contrast but not lacking in gravity in any way. Another good example of the CWGC dedication to honouring the dead and the great work they do.
