A rugged area, but very fun to see and enjoy.

点评:We missed the turn off and had to turn around. We thought the road was a restricted area belonging to the Missouri Dept. of Natural Resources. (GPS did take us here, but for some reason, it didn't tell us to turn.) The gate, though, is because it's often closed due to flooding. Because this area (and upriver) had been in a drought, all the rain this area recently had still was not enough to cause flooding when we went.
I had read about the gravel road, so was prepared for it. We drove slowly, but still acquired quite a dusty car! The whole area is very rural and feels almost like maybe you shouldn't be in that area.
When we arrived at the parking area, we met a busload of campers. While they were gettng organized, we booked it ahead of them to the actual confluence. We had plenty of time to read the interpretive markers and walk around the area. We watched the rivers merge, but due to the way the sun was shining, we did not see the different colors. (which we did see from the Lewis and Clark Confluence Tower in Hartford). The area was a bit muddy and not well groomed, but there is no way this area could be kept better with frequent flooding.
We spent about 10 minutes here, just enjoyng the quiet and scenery before the bus of kids caught up with us. While we might have stayed a bit longer, we also did not feel like we missed out on anything.
