点评:We visited this museum as my partner has previously worked as a lock keeper, and owns a narrowboat, so was keen to see the history and exhibits etc., about the rivers and waterways system. After paying about £20 entrance fees, a gentleman gave us an abridged version of the talk, showed us some boats, a steam trolley and dredger outside, said it would take too long to board the usual boats, and then told us to browse the 3 stories of the museum. After looking round some machinery, engines, pumps etc on the ground floor, we went up to the 2nd floor where there was a large creche area, but barge-ware, and other interesting items were locked inside a storage cage, so we were unable to see much. Appointments are necessary to view these apparently? The 3rd floor was taken up by the Rivers & Waterways charity offices. We went in as we wanted to know about the latest rules/regulations for using the canals etc, but we were treated very rudely by a man who said we couldn’t go into their rooms. A man had held the door open for us to enter, but we were told to ‘go online’ and shown the door.
Their lack of even basic manners and help was extraordinary, so we will no longer support their charity, due to their staffs ignorant manners. This experience was totally miss-sold to us, the promise of 3 floors of exhibits untrue, and a total waste of time and money.
