点评:My partner has talked about going on the Forest Drive for quite a bit. So when another hot day was forecast we decided to go. We certainly were not disappointed. It’s about a 7 mile route with breathtaking views of Risca, Newport and the Bristol Channel in the distance. There are several car park points to stop on the way with toilet and picnic facilities.
Afterwards, we called at the Visitors Centre - the woman on the desk was not very for coming with information. As for the gift shop, you can buy the same sort of “tat” in Clinton’s and Card Factory at cheaper prices. What would have been nice was to have some local Welsh handcrafts etc. In the cafe (noting the other negative responses on this facility), we were greeted by a really helpful guy who served us filtered coffee and we had two delicious blueberry muffins.
A special mention for the male ranger at The Lodge (start of the drive where you pay your £10 fee) who was cheerful, very helpful and took his time to explain what we should look out for on our drive. The £10 fee was well worth it and also gave you free parking at the Visitors Car Park (£3 all day).
