点评:Long picturesque drive leading to the parking lot for the hall. Kedelston Hall is quite the contrast to nearby Calke Abbey. We arrived in what we thought was plenty of time to tour the house, but upon entrance, the greeter encouraged us to not waste any time and make our way into the hall first thing.
It was soon obvious why she seemed to rush us inside. There was SO much to admire and see that we barely made it through the entire tour before the house closed.
Tour is self guided, with volunteers stationed along the way to answer any questions.
Little did we know that we'd see Roman columns, ornate cupolas, gold gilded mirror and marble walls. Quite a feast for the eyes. Rooms were decorated similar to that of Royal Palaces.
The gardens were small but still worth a walk around, and there was a cafe on the grounds that stayed upen until 5:00, guaranteeing a cream tea after exiting the hall.
We are National Trust members (via Royal Oak) so I cannot comment on the admission charge as I did not note it. But the hall certainly has a LOT to offer and you could easily spent a few hours in there admiring the holdings.
