Well worth to join Carolene Ekis' Upper Antelope Canyon Tour

点评：We had a morning Lower Antelope Canyon tour and decided to include an afternoon Upper Antelope Canyon tour as well. It was definitely worth to take the second tour to Upper Antelope Canyon as it was different in many ways.
First of all, if you have already purchased an Antelope Canyon tour in the morning, you have already purchased the mandatory Navajo Tribal park permit ; therefore, before you commence the afternoon tour, make sure when you check in the office that you mention to them that you already purchased the permit for the day. Make sure you make a copy of the original receipt indicating payment of it and they should automatically refund you the $8.00 per person permit into your credit card account.
You meet your tour group and open air van of 14 passengers for the 10-15 minute ride from town to the trailhead for the Upper Antelope Canyon trailhead. Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes as you will be walking primarily on sand for the most part of the tour. Also, if you do not enjoy getting sand in your face, make sure you bring along a face mask so when the van kicks up sand, it will not land on your face as the ride to the trailhead is quite bumpy.
The groups are broken down in 14 persons led by a guide. Scott, our guide was really great taking us down the narrow canyon walls. The Upper Antelope Canyon walls are darker than the Lower Antelope Canyon and a bit more narrow but there are no staircases inside the slot canyon itself. It is very different from the Lower Antelope Canyon and well worth to take this tour in addition to it as the lighting changes over time during the day and it is the light that makes the sandstone walls look so unique.
The tour itself was 100 minutes- about 1 hr. 40 min. around 1/2 mile one-way with plenty of opportunities for photos along the way.
At the end of the guided tour of the Upper Antelope Canyon, you will need to climb up through a series of metal grate staircases, so go at your comfortable speed. Good thing is that these metal staircases are all covered so the harsh sun does not hit you directly as you are walking up and eventually walking back down to the open air van to return back to the headquarters. It was definitely an enjoyable visit to the Upper Antelope Canyon.
