点评：If you love a foodie market, the Carriageworks Market is Sydney’s best.
The fresh flowers are beautiful, there’s organic produce, fruit and veg but also lots of tempting gourmet produce - wines, olive oils, cured meats, artisan breads, cheeses, honey…
Most stalls offer tastings. We tried some golden honeys by Maya Sunny and settled on a beautiful lavender honey. Next we sampled some organic wines which weren’t so much to my taste but the ginger beers were.
We enjoyed chatting to local growers, getting their advice and choosing seasonal produce that was ripe and ready and freshly grown. No cold-storage, no artificial colouring and no chemical prolonging of its shelf-life.
I’d recommend that you don’t eat before you get here. There are so many hot food options, it’s hard to choose. We lined up for one of the very popular Broomfield pies (they sell out of some so don’t wait for too long).
We sat outside against the walls of the Carriageworks building, alongside the old railway tracks which have been retained and are embedded in the paving. Small children ran up and down the old tracks and people grabbed upturned milk crates to serve as seats. It’s all very casual and relaxed.
It’s worth noting that this is a morning market so don’t leave it too late. It starts at 8am but by midday it’s starting to close and by 1pm, it’s over.
Unlike most weekend markets, the stalls are all under cover so it goes ahead even if it’s raining.
GETTING HERE: South Eveleigh is very easy to get to from the CBD by train. It’s just a few minutes' walk from Redfern Station (use the South Eveleigh Exit).
