First time visitor to Newbiggin. More investment needed in the town.
Newbiggin Maritime Centre的点评
点评：Never been to Newbiggin-by-the Sea before and decided to pay a short visit whilst waiting for an appointment at nearby Wansbeck Hospital.
The town does feel like a run down place but definitely showing signs of regeneration.
There are only a couple of visitor attractions here really if you don't count the fact that Newbiggin is a hotspot for spotting dolphins / seals etc along the coastline.
One of the visitor attractions is the Maritime Museum situated at the end of the beach near the Church headland and just in front of the main (free) car park.
The museum is relatively small but does have a couple of impressive full size boats in the shape of a coble fishing boat and a retired RNLI lifeboat.
It is well curated and very interesting. There are toilets inside the building too and a small gift shop area.
Entry is £2.50 per person and I think they could and should charge more. I'd say a fiver an adult and £3 a child.
I think non-locals visiting for the first time generally would pay this and it is important to keep the heritage of local UK areas alive with museums like this.
There are some benches up some steps next to the museum where you can sit and look out over the sea.
Newbiggin has some fantastic positives but it still felt like a slightly run down former mining community but I guess I am from one of these communities in Yorkshire and can sense that feeling.
It could be a gem of a place if tidied up and more work was done making it look and feel more bustling and touristy.
Enjoyed the brief visit anyway and thoroughly recommend the museum.
