点评:Although an overcast day we enjoyed the walk to the rhododendron garden and through the house. The terrain to the garden was well described in English and Welsh, the markers clear and a countdown to show how far more it would be. We always enjoy the NT second hand book shops and it was lovely to see well engaged children guided in an outdoor session next to the bookshop, showing the value of inclusion. For us, the Whistler mural was a definite, worthwhile feature, but the slow motion film of the mural, in the adjoining room, was better still as it allowed is to really appreciate the detail that couldn't possibly be taken in looking at the whole eg the basket of fruit to the foreground on the wall was some mere few inches of 56foot, but on the film could be seen the highlights on certain grapes, the Galia melon skin and the pomegranate seeds in a cut fruit.
Our only gripe, as always, is the price of food. Staff are helpful and friendly in the cafe, but £3.30 for a small square of rhubarb flapjack! Personally the grandchildren in our family have a visit to such places made by the open space freedom and at least a snack or ice cream . I think the admission costs for families could be offset a little by offering some value for money food and drink. NT emphasises the desire to engage with children and to be inclusive - so here is the chance.
