点评：A penal colony was setup to populate Ushuaia as the Argentine lookout at the border.. Around 1920 there where approx 500 city members against the same: 500 second offenders who where banned from society.. Most of the city members worked in or around the prison. This prison and the preserved 12km trainrail to get them to cut trees and transport the wood back are a living testimonial how outcasts were used to provide free labour for the benefit of society. It is remarkably registered in the museum also in English. There are multiple tours well worth to attend (use lifestream translation if required). And.. do not forget to lock yourself in one of the icecold cells for a minute or 2 in wing 2. They are preserved as is when the prison closed down in 1947.. It gave me the cold shivers! Built for 300 inmates, brick by brick by the prisoners themselves from 1902 up to 1920, in primetime it hold 600+ in jail.. I have been there 3 times this holiday. For people who search a paralel movie that gets a bit in the same spirit: Alien3. Do most certainly not miss this if you visit ushuaia!!! Martin
