点评:Tuesday 9th April and we visited the Town of Glastonbury, we parked up in the Car Park off Magdalene Street by the Tourist Information Centre.
We did visit the Tourist Centre to get directions to the Tor, it took us about twenty minutes.
We did make a slight mistake as we walked past the inconspicuous entrance at the bottom of Well House Lane, opposite a sign for Chalice Well. We continued up the Lane for a bit we then saw a sign giving directions to the Tor, this led us into a field, Fair Field. We trudged through the field which joined up with the steps from the entrance at the bottom of the Lane.
We proceeded to climb the 260 steps up to the ruins of St. Michael's Church perched on the top of the Tor. Climbing the steps was no too arduous, however the wind was battering, think it could have been Storm Lillian blowing through, it was a struggle to walk in. We reached a point where the pathway and steps turned and the Tower and Tor were a couple of hundred metres away in front of us. There was a small wooden bench there where we sat for a few moments hanging on to the bench.
It was an opportunity to take in the great views across Somerset's landscape, we could see the fields that remained flooded as result of recent storms.
We started to resume our climb from the bench to the top. Sadly we did not get much further as the winds were too strong, the area is very exposed, we were being blown off the path. Thought it unwise and safe to continue so we turned around and began walking back down. Some people, either bravely or stupidly did continue up to the summit.
We did appreciate what we achieved and the wonderful scenery were a bit disappointed we did not reach the summit. We did question if the Tor should have been open with such weather conditions prevailing.
The Top is a National Trust landmark and admission is free.
