点评：Shanklin Chine is absolutely worth the ticket — and the best part is that it’s valid for several days. It gives you easy access between Old Shanklin and the beach, with plenty to enjoy along the way: cosy pubs, a few lovely restaurants, a nighttime live-music spot, and some genuinely unique, locally-run shops.
The Chine itself is a gorgeous little gorge, beautifully lit after dark. We visited in August and again in October — the Halloween theming was fantastic — and I’d love to see how magical it looks at Christmas. There’s also a welcoming visitor shop at the Shanklin Beach entrance.
But the real treasure here is Charles.
He’s a wonderful live performer with a beautiful voice, singing everything from classics to Motown (my favourite). Sitting in the illuminated gorge, sipping a beer, listening to him sing… it’s pure magic. He’s the heart of the place. And a little tip: Charles only drinks hot chocolate — so be kind and treat the gentleman to one.
Enjoy — it’s a special experience.
