Fun train ride in the mountains of Norway - Flamsbana

点评：As the Bergen bound train from Oslo came to a halt at a rather quiet n small railway station called Myrdal, there was sudden activity within the train compartment. It was as if everyone was planned to get down here for the next leg of the journey. Infact quite rightly so, coz Myrdal is the gateway to the famed Flamsbana or the Flam Railway, which is supposedly one of the most spectacular railroads in the world.
The sleepy station platform was suddenly filled with people of all hues and colors, tugging their bags along and expectantly walking over to the other side of the platform to await the Flam Railway. Well, in about five minutes the Flam Railway did chug in with its wooden bogies, ready to carry the expectant bunch of merry making tourists.
The compartments were old fashioned wooden ones with normal upholstered wide seats on both sides and wide panoramic glass windows to give the paasengers a perfect view of the mountains and its beauty beyond. As the train rambled off and chugged along the tortuous mountain route, getting in and out tunnels every now and then, the commentary on the Public address system kept talking about the history of the Flamsbana, as well as the updated movements of the train. The commentator would quite often alert the tourists about impending breathtaking natural vistas and waterfalls as the train covered its distance at a gentle pace. There was also a 5 minutes photo halt at a well known Waterfalls on the way. Overall the Flamsbana was making all efforts to keep the tourists happy and keep theirenthusiasm going.
We reached our destination, Flam in about an hour from Myrdal.
The journey, no doubt was beautiful and the vistas were memorable. However, I've been on more breathtaking train rides in Switzerland and this one will always come after those spectacular rides in the Swiss Alps. That said, the Flamsbana is really good fun and it does take you to fairy tale village hidden n ensconced within the folds of the Norwegian Fjords.
