点评:Cleeve Abbey is somewhere that we have passed by on numerous occasions but this time, we decided to go in! And what a place - the range of monastic buildings is very impressive but unfortunately, the abbey church no longer exists but you can walk the foundations.
The staff are very welcoming and there is a small shop and a drinks vending machine but no cafe. Toilets are very good and spotlessly clean.
You wander around on your own (there is a guide book available from the shop) and can take your time to explore; the refectory has an amazing carved angel ceiling. Make sure you see the superb medieval floor tiles in the separate building and watch out for the carvings on the exterior walls. Several of the rooms are upstairs but the steps are worn so take care.
The whole range of buildings were built to house about 20 or so monks. The site now is very peaceful and if the weather is good, the ideal place for a picnic!
