Disappointing Sitka experience
Fortress of the Bear的点评
点评：We wanted to love this place but..sadly , we were very disappointed, almost depressing
Advice: lower your expectations.
We arrived on time— the time has be booked in advance. But then, we had to wait 15 minutes for “the bus to arrive.” So we, and others booked at the noon time, sat in this waiting room, looking at a video instead of being able to go out and see the bears, until a huge number of people from the bus joined us. The walkways were completely packed!
The bears wander around in huge metal enclosures. I believe it’s a sawmill that was repurposed, but looks like giant trash binsI surely there’s some way maybe a few plants to make it less industrial looking.
The story of the owner and his family’s effort and commitment in rescuing the bears is moving and admirable. We are glad we could contribute monetarily via ticket purchase. For that reason alone it was not a complete waste of money.
We first went to the Sitka Raptor Center, which is fantastic, so Fortress was even more of a letdown in comparison.
On the bright side, the gift shop has some lovely items.
