点评:We loved this visit! The immense telescope set in the strange landscape of the area looks “otherworldly “. The surrounding vegetation is enchanting in early summer, but you need to slow down to enjoy it.
We booked for the night tour but were contacted in the afternoon because cloud cover meant the tour was cancelled. We were offered a refund or a day tour the following morning. We chose the day tour. Well worth it.
The visitors centre needs work. It is disorganised and confusing. A few directional arrows would help separate the dinosaurs from the stars, for instance, and some exhibits were not working. Our charming guide was knowledgeable.
The SALT website does not give clear directions to the observatory. Visitors need to know that it’s a 15 minute drive out of Sutherland, not to be confused with the planetarium or Sterland.
Other reviews mention the potholes in the access road but we noticed that they’ve been repaired recently.
