点评:I was so keen to visit this that I brought my bike on the train all the way from Suffolk. I could have hired bikes locally, but Bayhire wanted an outrageous £29 per day for a basic mountain bike and would not deliver to my hotel.
Most directions to the track suggest it starts behind a children's play area near the Falsgrave Road Sainsbury's. Signposting is scarce if at all. In fact there are many ways to access the former Scarborough to Whitby railway line.
It starts off paved and, at one point where housing has been built over the track bed, the route becomes almost impossible to follow, before you pick it up again, this time on the cinders after which it is named. It is absolutely delightful, especially as you head out into the delightful Yorkshire countryside. Unlike the law student I met on the train the previous day who cycled all the way to win her gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award as a Scarborough Sea Cadet, I didn't do more than a few miles, but it was beckoning me to do more than time allowed.
If you are a walker or a cyclist, highly recommended.
