点评:We took the carriage ride tour of Rockefeller-built stone bridges and carriage roads near Jordan Pond on July 5, 2026. Our driver was a recent college graduate, Mason, driving two 4 - 5 year old Belgian draft horses named Doc and Dan. Mason was very knowledgeable about the history of the park, the history of the Rockefeller family and the design and building of the carriage roads, and the past and current horses being used on these tours. The tour was fantastic, covering several miles of carriage roads which feature amazing early 1900's stonework engineering, including stone bridges over streams and roads.
Given that the Rockefellers and several other families were instrumental in the creation of Acadia National Park, this tour was fantastic for a trip back in time to the era when the USA was just beginning to preserve natural lands for future generations to enjoy and learn to appreciate nature and natural landscapes. The slower pace of draft horses was perfect for closely observing the forests and streams along the route. Mason was outstanding for being entertaining as well as informative. His love and understanding of his team of Belgians was amazing and informative.
