Attractive mill, quality gift shop.
The Old Mill, Killin的点评
点评：This picturesque water mill is now a small museum of the area and a gift shop of above average quality.
It sits amidst the runnels and rivulets of the Dochart falls and, during opening times, the old wheel still turns. The corresponding wheels, gears and cogs can be viewed inside the gift shop.
The shop sells good quality items like soap, greetings cards, paintings, candles, sculptures etc.
The museum occupies the upper floor and consists largely of old photographs and printed boards to read. There are a handful of artefacts on display as well. Personally, I am not keen on standing reading a lot of text from boards but they appeared well written and others were clearly finding them interesting, so I wouldn't discourage anyone from visiting. You might as well - it's free of charge.
Running around the outside of the mill is a wooden platform allowing closer views of the wheel, the river and surrounding trees. This can be accessed even when the mill is closed and makes a good place to view wildlife. I saw many birds and even a red squirrel from here.
Like many of Killin's points of interest, I would say The Old Mill is a must if you're spending time here, a strong maybe if passing through but possibly not, in isolation, something to travel any great distance for.
