Outstanding abbey gig
Shrewsbury Abbey的点评
点评：We went to Shrewsbury Abbey as I bought tickets to the music of Prince by Candlelight for a friend as I am a huge Prince fan and was lucky enough to see a few of his gigs when he was alive. The Abbey looked really lovely and was lit up inside in a purple hue which added to the atmosphere. The seating was on the pews and they were surprisingly comfortable. The Abbot introduced the band, which I thought was a nice touch and also covered basic health and safety, which was good as not all venues do this. The building's architecture was impressive.
There was a range of drinks on offer, which was good. The band were pretty good but I felt that the second half was better and more uplifting, they had people dancing in the aisles. Purple rain at the end was spectacular and it left us feeling on a natural high. Churches are sacred places but what better way to bring people together than music that uplifts the soul, although Prince was very sexual in some ways he was also a very spiritual man who also sang about love so I think he would be proud. Some of the more inappropriate songs for the setting, such as cream, get off, and sexy MF, as well as pussy patrol weren't played but this is understandable. All that glitters was played and the band did an outstanding rendition of this, which made me cry. It's not often that there are many Prince tribute acts or bands so I was really pleased this event was on.
The friend that I took had not heard much Prince before but now I have converted him to liking Prince's music and he thought the gig was amazing. I would definetly go back to the Abbey again if there was an event that I found interesting.
