Our first disappointing visit to a fascinating and beautiful place

点评：This review applies only to our most recent visit. We have been coming to Sherborne Castle for many years, sometimes several times a year. We've spent many delightful hours in its rooms, and have read a great deal of the history associated with the place. On the most recent visit, we were stunned to be turned away. We were told that the Castle is now accessible only on guided tours, which we, as visitors of many years standing, would not be interested in. I think we could give a tour at this point! And said tours were apparently sold out already, although this was fairly early in the day. The man who turned us away was very cold and unsympathetic, and seemed to think it was unreasonable to want to wander the rooms as we had done for decades before. It was a sad experience and I hope there will once again be opportunities to visit the Castle at leisure and not be marched through on a tour.
