From the moment you meet the charming and welcoming lady in the gatehouse to the end of your tour you will have an intimate and fascinating experience of a Tudor mansion. This is not just an historical journey but one which you will feel like an invited guest of a Tudor Lord. Walking inside through the side door immediately transfers you back 400 years in the smokey atmosphere of another era. Each room has seats or couches from another time in which you are allowed to sit and enjoy the surroundings as if you are a welcome friend. And remember this mansion is actually lived in which I’m sure gives it a welcoming family embrace. Each room is filled with an amazing array of historical artefacts, Knights armour, mediaeval paintings, huge tapestries, authentic kitchen, genuine Tudor paintings, a Chinese room, bedrooms, furniture and an amazing bathroom, the list goes on.
Outside you will encounter what must be the best topiary’s in the world. Not just the wonderful hedge behind the house but the huge turreted castle made from bushes with its secret walkways. Within the enormous walled garden you will find historical fruits still growing from a bygone time still growing in a carefully cultivated landscape.
What a wonderful day out, take your time, relax and soak in a gem in the Suffolk landscape. This is as close as you will get to really touching history. Frenchman.
