点评：This museum, in common with the nearby and excellent Richard III museum, benefits from a combination of fascinating historical artefacts with brilliantly employed modern technology. The historical artefacts come in the form of an impressive chunk of roman wall, the footprint of part of a Roman settlement, some beautiful and near-complete sections of mosaic and numerous smaller but equally fascinating archaeological finds such as a coin hoard, a sculpted key handle and enamelled jewellery. As well as visiting the museum building, you can wander around the remains of the settlement. The technology comes in the form of a short informative film along with animated, holographic images, representing Roman inhabitants and each telling some part of the history. Along with clever and engaging displays, information boards and artists impressions, this makes for an interesting and accessible window on that slice of Leicester's past.
There is a small shop selling quality items and gifts and there is a friendly cafe serving drinks and snacks, from which you can look out over the Roman remains.
£12.50 for an adult seems a very reasonable entry fee, especially as it allows for unlimited revisits within a calendar year.
This museum, in my view, deserves a higher profile amongst Leicester's historical attractions.
